The course provides an examination of prophecy in ancient Israel. After an overview of the ancient Near Eastern context and of the origins of prophecy in Israel, the course examines the historical milieu and theologies of the classical prophets, beginning with the eighth-century prophets and concluding with the post-exilic prophets.
Prerequisite: Bi 504.
