Course Memo

This course helps students understand the important theological themes and events in the Historical Books: Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1-2 Samuel, 1-2 Kings, 1-2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Ester, Judith, and 1-2 Maccabees. Students learn how to read the Scriptures within the living tradition of the Church, beginning and ending with a hermeneutic of faith in the resurrected Christ. Emphasis is placed on the manner in which important events, figures, and themes in the Old Testament (or Hebrew Scriptures) prepared the way for the coming of Christ. The course continually looks to the New Testament and explains how the early Christians understood and read their Bible as they sought to share the Gospel with the rest of the world. Students learn how to apply the material in this course to the work of the New Evangelization, appropriate it to their personal life, and practically integrate it into their respective ministries.
